BAMBOO FLOORING
Bamboo flooring is a relatively new flooring product manufactured from the fast-growing bamboo plant. Because bamboo grows so quickly, it can be harvested much more intensely than hardwood resources – while still remaining completely sustainable.
A finished bamboo floor has a very similar appearance to hardwood, and is slightly harder and more durable. A treated and sealed bamboo floor is more resistant than most hardwood products to scratching, moisture, and general wear and tear.
Bamboo has a much lower price point relative to hardwoods as well, with the downside that it cannot usually be refinished. Bamboo typically has a 25-year lifespan, though some specially treated bamboo products can last three decades or more. Just as with hardwood, engineered bamboo flooring products are also available. These are composite planks or tiles with a bamboo layer attached to a plywood core. These products are tough, attractive, and easy to install, as the planks simply ‘click’ together.
