YOUR TRUSTED VANCOUVER
TILE FLOORING STORE
Next to wood, stone or ceramic tiling is one of the most popular natural flooring materials.
Besides their classic appearance, stone tiles are easy to clean and maintain, not holding on to any dirt, pet hair, or dust. Stone tiling also has incredible longevity, adding value to your home for decades to come. Ceramic tiling is cheaper than stone, has many of the same properties, and is available in a dazzling variety of colours, styles, and designs. Porcelain is a special variety of ceramic tiles designed for high-moisture areas.
Stone, ceramic, and porcelain tiles are also energy efficient, helping to keep your home cool in the summer and holding on to heat in the winter.

TYPES OF FLOOR TILES
Just what it sounds like, stone floor tiles are a product made of tiles from materials such as sandstone, quartz, granite and marble. They are more expensive relative to ceramic and porcelain tiles, and as they are cut from natural stone, there isn’t as much variety in appearance to choose from. You do have the option of choosing your finish, which can vary from smooth and polished like the stone you find in a corporate lobby, to more rough and textured finishes.
All styles of stone tiles have almost unmatched durability, are very easy to clean and maintain, and have fantastic longevity. Most people consider the patina a stone floor accumulates over its lifetime as an attractive part of its charm.
Ceramic tiles are made from red or white clay that has been fired within a kiln and, usually, glazed. While this product is somewhat less resilient to damage than stone tiling, it still has many of its advantages, including being easy to maintain. The durable seal on top of most ceramic tiles makes it resistant to a wide range of cleaning products, meaning it is even easier to clean and sanitize than stone tiling. Lastly, ceramic tiling is cheaper than stone, while being available in a wide variety of patterns, colours, and designs to suit almost any room or taste.
Porcelain tiling is similar to ceramic, but with some special properties. It is made out of a harder, denser substance which makes it almost impervious to moisture. This means it is a perfect choice for tiling outside, or for extremely moisture-prone indoor areas such as showers, bathrooms, or even sink basins!
Not sure whether stone, ceramic, or porcelain is the best fit for your project? Our team would love to discuss exactly which products are appropriate for your application. If you need help picking a style or design, we can visit you onsite with our extensive catalogue of samples to help you pick the perfect fit.
COMMERCIAL TILE FLOORING
Stone, ceramic, or porcelain tiling can be a great choice for commercial flooring, albeit a more expensive one. Especially for lobbies or other areas where appearance really counts, large stone slabs can make for an extremely attractive floor that is highly durable, resistant to wear, and easy to keep sparkling clean.
Another product worth mentioning for commercial applications is quarry tile. While having a similar appearance to ceramic tile, these tiles are made out of a mix of natural materials like clays and shale and are more similar to very hard, dense brick than ordinary ceramic. These tiles are suitable for any heavy commercial application that requires a durable floor that is easy to clean and resists spills and stains with ease.
TILE FLOORING INSTALLATION
When it comes time to install your floor tiles of choice, Floors Depot is ready to work with you every step of the way to ensure the installation is a success.
While we’ve all seen those DIY tile installations, at Floors Depot we always recommend leaving installation to our professional team for a headache-free process and a fantastic finish. That way you’ll be left with a perfect floor you can appreciate for years to come.
Once you’ve selected your product, our team will visit you on-site to give you a detailed quote based on the dimensions of the job. When you’re ready for the installation, we’ll handle every part of the process, from checking the subfloor to properly installing any necessary membranes to ensure that the final surface is resistant to cracking. If you’re installing in the bathroom, we’ll ensure the entire installation is waterproof, and complete with grout, seal and silicone.
Finally, if you already have a tile floor in the area of the installation, we’ll remove it before starting and take it away with us when we leave.

We required an emergency floor replacement due on very short notice. We called Alex at 4pm on Friday afternoon and he was there by 6. Alex was a clear communicator. The job was done quickly and he was accommodating to our tight schedule. When some unforeseen challenges came up with the renovation (out of his control) he solved it and kept the project on schedule. Our floors look great, and the whole experience was stress free. TILE FLOORING FAQ
Can I lay stone tiles anywhere?
Stone tiles can be laid on any surface that is strong enough to support them. We would love to help you determine the right flooring product for your space.
Won’t stone feel cold underfoot?
As stone is highly absorbent of heat, stone will usually only feel slightly cooler than room temperature, and will feel quite warm in a well-heated room. Stone is also a great choice if you are looking into installing under floor heating!
How do I choose the right tile?
There is an incredible diversity among stone, ceramic, and porcelain tiles that can fit almost every space. Some simple guidelines that are usually mentioned are to select a large tile size for larger rooms, and to vary the shade or tone of the tile with the light available – you might pick a darker stone tile for a brightly lit kitchen, for example.
That being said, because there is such a huge variety available (especially if you consider all of the patterns available on ceramic tiling), our team would love to help you select the perfect tile for your floor. As Vancouver’s experts on tile and stone flooring, we’ve helped countless clients pick the right product for their needs.
