TYPES OF FLOOR TILES
STONE TILES
Just what it sounds like, stone floor tiles are a product made of tiles from materials such as sandstone, quartz, granite and marble. They are more expensive relative to ceramic and porcelain tiles, and as they are cut from natural stone, there isn’t as much variety in appearance to choose from. You do have the option of choosing your finish, which can vary from smooth and polished like the stone you find in a corporate lobby, to more rough and textured finishes.
All styles of stone tiles have almost unmatched durability, are very easy to clean and maintain, and have fantastic longevity. Most people consider the patina a stone floor accumulates over its lifetime as an attractive part of its charm.
CERAMIC TILES
Ceramic tiles are made from red or white clay that has been fired within a kiln and, usually, glazed. While this product is somewhat less resilient to damage than stone tiling, it still has many of its advantages, including being easy to maintain. The durable seal on top of most ceramic tiles makes it resistant to a wide range of cleaning products, meaning it is even easier to clean and sanitize than stone tiling. Lastly, ceramic tiling is cheaper than stone, while being available in a wide variety of patterns, colours, and designs to suit almost any room or taste.
PORCELAIN TILES
Porcelain tiling is similar to ceramic, but with some special properties. It is made out of a harder, denser substance which makes it almost impervious to moisture. This means it is a perfect choice for tiling outside, or for extremely moisture-prone indoor areas such as showers, bathrooms, or even sink basins!

Can I lay stone tiles anywhere?
Stone tiles can be laid on any surface that is strong enough to support them. We would love to help you determine the right flooring product for your space.
Won’t stone feel cold underfoot?
As stone is highly absorbent of heat, stone will usually only feel slightly cooler than room temperature, and will feel quite warm in a well-heated room. Stone is also a great choice if you are looking into installing under floor heating!
How do I choose the right tile?
There is an incredible diversity among stone, ceramic, and porcelain tiles that can fit almost every space. Some simple guidelines that are usually mentioned are to select a large tile size for larger rooms, and to vary the shade or tone of the tile with the light available – you might pick a darker stone tile for a brightly lit kitchen, for example.
